Create a Modern Controls Edit Form

By now you will hopefully be aware of the new modern controls in Power Apps, if you do you can skip this next part if not then please keep reading.

Key Considerations: Modern controls are in preview and it advised not to use for Production intent applications.

Microsoft have been working hard on providing us with these controls but they are not feature rich as of yet and the ability to change colour to suit your theme is something I hope they have in the pipe line.

What are Modern Controls?

Modern controls are fast, assessable and modern styled thanks to Fluent 2.0. They offer an Improved authoring & controls experience.

But don't just take my word for it.

Enable modern controls now and follow along with me! How To Enable. Power Apps developers can turn on modern controls feature in Power Apps Studio by navigating to list of preview features in settings dialog.

After turning the feature on, developers can view the list of controls on insert pane in left panel.

A new fresh experience.

Ok so with modern controls now turned on let's focus our attention to modifying a form to look New and Fresh! As you can see, I have a real basic form that consists of a few free text fields, a date picker and a dropdown or choice field.

Let's start with the DatePicker, click on the Date Card then navigate to Insert > DatePicker

The card is locked so you need to unlock and add.

Next you need to set the orignal forms datepicker default to your new modern control datepicker value.

Your Datepicker is now connected and if you were to change your modern controls date it would also change the date in the form.

Let make this look better. Resize your Modern date picker to the original size of your form date picker and overlay on top of the original.

Also, we should defiantly go one step further and turn the visibility of the DataCardValue to false.

Dropdown's & Radios For Dropdowns or radios, there is an extra step.

We need to get the data to display in the control before we hook it up to the form.

We do this by getting the Choices from the orignal form control.

Then repeat the same steps as above.

It's That Simple! Now rinse and repeat for the rest of your controls and you should end up with something like this

From This........

To This 🎉
